Touch Grass Club started in 2023 as a group chat discussing problems we were facing as young people who felt out of touch with our environment and local communities. It grew into a series of informal outdoor gatherings, and then into the organization and programs we have today.
Touch Grass Club organizes and hosts events that bring our neighbors together with Knowledge Holders and scientific experts to learn about the natural world around us, and make our communities a more sustainable place to live.
We don’t have a central location to work out of, so we rely on public land and partnerships with community organizations to host our events. This has turned out to be a blessing in disguise - allowing us to bring events to people all across the city and make connections with amazing community partners. We try to make sure that our events are accessible by public transportation whenever possible, and organize alternative transport like Park Bus or carpooling for events outside the city. Access to natural spaces should never rely on owning a car!
As Touch Grass Club, we hope to give our neighbors the resources and knowledge to restore biodiversity within and around amiskwaciy-wâskahikan. We’re working to build spaces that encourage respect, reciprocity, and care for each other and the world around us. We hope you’ll join us!
Bring engaging, accurate information about the natural world to people that may not otherwise have access to it.
Build the framework for resilient, reciprocal community networks.
Teach other humans who our plant, animal, and insect neighbors are and what our role is in taking better care of them.
Provide a space for Knowledge Holders and scientific experts to share their knowledge, and compensate them fairly for their time.

Hi! I’m a settler that’s lived in amiskwaciy-wâskahikan my whole life, and I joined Touch Grass Club to learn how to be a better caretaker for the land I was born on. Design is my day job, and I love it enough to do it for fun with Touch Grass! I chose the field because I love learning but could never decide what area to specialize in, so it gives me the opportunity to learn from experts and figure out how to share their knowledge with everyone else. Touch Grass has given me the opportunity to get to learn so much about the land I grew up on, but never got to really know. It’s like getting to be a kid again; running around outside to find weird bugs - except this time, I get to know what the bugs are actually named.
